Dr. David Mortimer is Eden’s highly respected assisted reproductive technologies (ART) and diagnostic labs designer. Dr. Mortimer and his wife, Dr. Sharon Mortimer, are the founders of the Vancouver-based international reproductive biomedicine consulting company, Oozoa Biomedical. Oozoa designs new ART laboratories and cryobanks, upgrades and implements new lab systems and helps labs develop quality management programs, performs TQM audits and advises companies developing products for the reproductive biomedicine field.
The UK-born Mortimer, who holds a PhD and post-doctoral fellowships in Edinburgh, Paris and Birmingham, was previously a faculty member at the University of Calgary, scientific director at Sydney IVF (Australia), and president of the Canadian Fertility and Andrology Society. He has been a member of Canada’s ART Standards Working Group since 2007 and the Canadian Standards Association since 2008.
Mortimer has authored and co-authored more than 150 publications, including Practical Laboratory Andrology (Oxford University Press, 1994), Quality and Risk Management in the IVF Laboratory (Cambridge University Press, 2005; 2nd edition 2015), and A Practical Guide to Basic Laboratory Andrology (Cambridge University Press, 2010).
In addition to Eden, Mortimer also serves as scientific director for the Sidra Reproductive Medicine Unit (Doha, Qatar); executive scientific director for the Vitalab Centre for Assisted Conception (Sandton, Gauteng, South Africa); and, on scientific advisory panels for Mellowood Medical (Canada), Planer (UK), Hamilton Thorne (USA) and SCSA Diagnostics (USA).
